Braces-friendly Snack Ideas for the Holidays

If you’re currently undergoing an orthodontic treatment during the holidays, you may be seeking some braces friendly foods. After all, what better way to celebrate the holidays than with holiday-themed snacks?!

At Caudill & McNeight Orthodontics, we love to get in the holiday spirit. (Check out our Facebook to see our awesome team in our holiday costumes!) We’re here to give you some ideas for braces friendly foods that you can enjoy throughout the holiday festivities.

Ham & Turkey

You don’t have to pass up the traditional ham or turkey for the holidays! As long as you avoid chomping down on hard bones or cartilage, you shouldn’t run into any challenges with your brackets or wires.

Casseroles

Enjoy all the holiday casseroles you want! You don’t have to pass up green bean casserole, cheesy potato casserole, corn fritter casserole, three-cheese pasta casserole, or sweet potato casserole. These soft ingredients are perfect for metal braces.

Rolls and Bread

Special holiday bread and buttery rolls? Yes please! Add monkey bread, cornbread, Hawaiian rolls, twisted bread, cinnamon bread, coffee cake, blueberry muffins, cheese danishes, and banana eggnog bread to your list this holiday season. These soft fixings are bound to please your appetite and your braces treatment.

Pies

You can’t possibly celebrate the holidays without pie! Enjoy all the pie you want this season, from cheesecake, apple pie, pumpkin pie, blueberry pie, lemon meringue pie, chocolate pie, toasted marshmallow pie, or french silk pie. (It’s a good idea to avoid any pies with almonds, hazelnuts or macadamia nuts to preserve your brackets and wires, though.)

Snacking with Invisalign

You’re well aware of the sweet, savory, salty treats you can enjoy with metal or ceramic braces, but what can you eat with Invisalign?

You can eat any holiday foods you want during your Invisalign treatment! That’s the magic of Invisalign clear aligners. Your clear aligner trays are removable, so you can take them out, store them in your Invisalign case, and enjoy all the pie and cookies you want!

Don’t eat or drink anything (other than water) with your Invisalign clear aligners in your mouth. Food and drinks can damage your Invisalign by discoloring, staining or deforming your trays.

After you chow down, rinse your clear aligners with lukewarm water, brush your teeth if possible, and place them back in your mouth. Voila!

It’s easy to make safe-yet-tasty decisions throughout the holidays. Whether you have metal braces or Invisalign, there are countless seasonal foods to suit your treatment!
